My Educational Background
"Never Stop Learning."
My educational background includes a master's degree in educational leadership and administration, which has given me a comprehensive understanding of the many factors that contribute to effective teaching and learning. I also hold a bachelor's degree in performing arts, which has honed my creativity and taught me the importance of collaboration and communication. In addition to that I have a post graduate certificate in education which has further improved my knowledge of the educational industry.
Furthermore, I always make it my mission to upskill myself through further training. I believe in life-long learning. Thus, I have taken multiple creative courses, all of which have added so much value to the work I do, and because of this, I am so excited about all the skills I have yet to learn.
I got into instructional design because I found traditional teaching materials weren’t interactive and engaging enough. I wanted to create a fun way for learners to memorize content and learn new skills.
As a teacher, it takes a lot of time to design curriculum and lesson plans, so I made it my mission to simplify the process. Furthermore, finding a work-life balance can be hard when you want to create quality learning resources whilst teaching at the same time. Therefore, I decided early on to improve upon my teaching materials to make them future proof. As a result, I was able to focus more on my teaching style and build better relationships with my students.
Fellow colleagues were interested in my work and asked to incorporate it into their lessons. Soon after, they expressed to me how valuable it was for their lessons and their work-life balance. Following that, I delved deeper into the field of instructional design and started developing multiple resources that were applicable to various industries. These resources included job aids, eLearning courses, and training facilitation and participation guides to name a few.
Being an instructor has given me good insight about the learning experiences people have. This insight has ignited a passion in me to help people improve their lives through training and upskilling, and this industry allows me to do that.
I started designing websites as a result of learning more about instructional design as it required visual design knowledge. I realised how crucial this knowledge was to make e-Learning products engaging. Good visual design draws the user in through its aesthetically pleasing lines, shapes, and colours. These design principles were commonly associated with web design.
I wanted to know more about how a website works, how it is structurally sound and how to incorporate creative and visual aesthetics into my projects. I started off dabbling with basic website builders and templates, but they had limited functionality. Eventually, I moved on and learned how to code HTML and CSS. The knowledge of HTML and CSS, coupled with the convenience and speed of advanced website builders, like Webflow and Framer have tremendously helped develop my understanding of how websites work and how they are structured.
After that, I wanted to focus more on the creative and visual aspects of web design, which led me to dive into User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) Design. I learned about the importance of design fundamentals and how they can affect a user’s experience as well as the important research one must do to create a reliable and professional product.
My main priority is to solve problems for businesses so that their companies can grow. I strive to deliver great products that produce positive results. This industry has led me to devoting my time to improving my clients' businesses by creating or redesigning their websites to support their business goals.
I love designing websites because it gives me so many opportunities to be creative. I enjoy designing something from scratch and turning it into something beautiful and engaging.
